How Trinity got started

The beginnings of Trinity Baptist started in a living room, during the 1940s before World War II. Members of a Baptist church in Thermal began holding midweek prayer meetings in Indio because they wanted to be able to meet locally during the week.

After several years, they decided that the Indio area needed a Baptist church of its own and formed Trinity Baptist Church. Renting a VFW hall for its first service in the spring of 1948, the small church had just six charter members from three different families. They broke ground at Trinity’s current location for a building in 1951, adding to and improving on the building as time went on.

Over the years, the church has ministered to thousands of people, especially emphasizing its outreach to children and teens. A church bus was purchased in the 1960s with green stamps, and would pick up children and teens for church on Sundays through the late 1980s. Vacation Bible Schools would attract children from all over the Coachella Valley in the 1960s, with attendance of over 500 children.

The “Fifth Quarter” gatherings for teens after the local football games were very popular in the community in the 1970s. Trinity hosted a thriving AWANA club in the 1980s and Kids Klub in the 1990s. Today, the “Trinity Kids” program for elementary students on Sundays and a midweek youth group for teens continue the legacy of strengthening the next generation to live a life for Christ.

We look forward to celebrating this amazing milestone church anniversary. Thanks for being part of our Trinity family!
